Privacy Policy

Chimpanzee, LLC (“Chimpanzee,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Bible Captions mobile application and related website (“Bible Captions” or the “Service”).
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Bible Captions.
Information We Handle
Bible Captions does not require a Chimpanzee account.
Notes and App Data
Bible Captions may let you create notes, highlights, bookmarks, reading preferences, and other app content.
This content is stored on your device and may also be synchronized through Apple iCloud/CloudKit when those features are enabled.
Chimpanzee does not operate a separate account system for Bible Captions and does not intentionally send your private notes or highlights to API.Bible as part of normal Scripture retrieval.
Scripture Requests
Certain Bible translations are retrieved through a server-side service operated for Bible Captions.
When Scripture is requested, the Service may process:
- Bible translation identifiers
- book, chapter, verse, or passage identifiers
- standard network information needed to deliver the request
Bible Captions currently uses Cloudflare infrastructure to securely route and cache Scripture requests and may retrieve licensed Scripture from API.Bible or other authorized providers.
Scripture may also be cached locally on your device for performance and offline use.
Purchases and Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store.
Chimpanzee does not collect or store your payment card information.
Bible Captions may receive purchase and subscription information from Apple that is needed to determine access to paid features, including product and entitlement status and introductory-offer eligibility.
Diagnostics and Technical Information
Apple and service providers used by Bible Captions may process limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the Service, such as crash information, IP address, request time, and request path.
We do not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
How We Use Information
We use information handled through Bible Captions only as reasonably necessary to:
- provide Bible Captions features;
- retrieve and cache Scripture;
- synchronize supported app data;
- verify subscription access;
- diagnose bugs and performance problems;
- prevent abuse or unauthorized use; and
- comply with legal and content-license requirements.
We do not sell personal information.
Third-Party Services
Bible Captions may use:
- Apple for App Store distribution, StoreKit purchases and subscriptions, iCloud/CloudKit, and related platform services;
- Cloudflare for secure Scripture routing, caching, and infrastructure protection; and
- API.Bible and authorized Bible-content providers for licensed Scripture.
These services may process information according to their own terms and privacy policies.
Data Retention
Notes and other app content remain on your device until removed by you or by the device/app lifecycle.
Content synchronized through iCloud or CloudKit is subject to Apple’s storage and retention practices.
Server-side Scripture caches may be retained and refreshed as needed for performance and licensing compliance.
Technical logs may be retained for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
Children’s Privacy
Bible Captions does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through a Chimpanzee account system because no such account is required.
If we learn that we have directly collected personal information from a child under 13 in violation of applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date above.
